Produce headed to Toledo "food deserts"

Produce headed to Toledo

A new partnership between the YMCA, The United Way and the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department is working to solve the problem of Toledo’s “food deserts.” By the end of this summer, 23 kiosks offering what is described as fresh, fairly priced and locally grown produce will be set up in Stop and Go stores around the city. YMCA of Greater Toledo President and CEO Brad Toft tells Toledo News Now that food deserts exist where there are gaps in neighborhoods that do not have grocery stores, farmers markets, and access to the healthy foods that people should eat.
